Training programme - Week 3 - Session 2

Service technique

Main goal:
Improve your 2nd serve (placement, spin)
Secondary aim:
Net play, smash technique
Improve technique (Positioning, preparation, execution at full stretch)

Main Session 1-hour:
5’ : Rallies within the service lines without hitting hard and without expanding the game. Keep control of the ball with your hands. All shots must be executed from a balanced, two-footed solid foundation.

5’ : After a quick serving warm up, play points using the whole court but with only one chance to serve.

10’ : Serve at targets in the deuce court with a net extension (50cm higher). Work on dipping serves and precise ball flight (safety zone in front of the service line). It’s important to toss the ball slightly behind your head and hit up and through it “brushing” it slightly. Your wrist action can increase the spin created.

10’ : Same as previous exercise but in the advantage court.

10’ : Play points using the whole court but with only one chance to serve.

10’ : GPractise smashing in both courts. Hit smashes, ensuring your shoulders are pointing in the direction you want to hit the ball, directly from the trophy position (without winding up from below as you would for a serve). Move into position using small steps with your free arm pointing upwards. Strike the ball at almost full stretch with the front leg pushing forwards.

10’ : ’: Open play. Play points beginning with a serve.
