Training programme - Week 4 - Session 2

Service technique

Main goal:
Improve your 1st serve (placement, spin, power)
Secondary aim:
Tactical patterns behind 1st serve

Main Session 1-hour:
5’ : Rallies within the service lines without hitting hard and without expanding the game. Keep control of the ball with your hands. All shots must be executed from a balanced, two-footed solid foundation.

5’ : After a quick serving warm up, play points using the whole court with 3 serves available (two 1st serves and one 2nd serve).

10’ : Serve at targets diagonally in both courts. Concentrate on the beginning of your service motion (preparation) then throwing the elbow upwards and forwards. Give added speed to the racket head by coordinating with your leg drive. Hit the ball flat with the racket head further forward than your hand, almost at full stretch.

20’ : To help you achieve your shot objective and hit the ball flat, play the point in the deuce court according to the following guidelines: two 1st serves from 1m50 inside the baseline, and one 2nd serve from the baseline. Serve using either a wide trajectory or down the T. Behind the serve, the server has 3 shots to finish the point.

20’ : Open play. Play points beginning with a serve.
